The Grand Wedding
Marriage is one of the most important passage of those who believe in the institution of marriage. It is the beginning of family life and consequently an opportunity to start a family as the couple prepares for parenting roles. Marriages offer the couple involved the opportunity to love each other and to become selfless as they try to accommodate each other in their lives.
Marriages are usually sealed by weddings. In the Christian set-up, a wedding is recommended to enable the couple to seal their bond and also get blessed in their marriage life. Couples commit themselves to each other by exchanging vows that they w3ill live with each other till death does them apart.
I have been married for 16 years now. Got blessed our marriage with 3 children. I’d say that marriage life has been smooth although we have faced many challenges which we have always managed to overcome and grow stronger with time.
I can vividly recall the day that we exchanged vows years back at Auckland Castle. It was my wife who chose this place for the event. At first, I didn’t love the idea because I wanted the wedding to take place in my home country in Scotland but after giving it a thought and seeking advice from my folks, I backed the idea. We then started making preparations for the event after confirming the venue. We wanted our wedding to be a memorable one and one which would always give us a reason to renew our vows each year, something that we have been doing in our local church in Scotland.
A Beautiful Place to Exchange Vows
Our union was more of a destination wedding because most of the guests were from my home and others had travelled from my wife’s birthplace in Wales. Therefore there was a lot to plan especially in hosting the guests. My brother in law, Mark, played a crucial role in organizing most of the hospitality arrangements for the guests.
We found a nice hotel in Middlesborough where the guest would be hosted. We decided to choose the hotel even though Middlesborough is a one hour driving distance from Durham because the hotel had excellent facilities and also had a great hospitality suite where the guest could gather for formalities and last minute arrangements. Most of them had already arrived by the eve of the wedding day and after holding a meeting, we gave them a wedding newsletter and continued with other plans for the day.
The wedding day was quiet memorable as we had initially planned. What really made everything beautiful was the scenic environment of Auckland Castle. Most of the guests had never been to the place and they really marveled at the beauty of the place. The gardens were magnificent and the gliding ducks in the waters alongside the paths made the environment very welcoming.
Everything went according to our plans. We exchanged vows in the lovely St Peter’s Chapel where the bishop united us in the wedding ceremony and blessed our marriage. What really made the wedding memorable was the classical setting of Auckland Castle and the magnificent gardens which made classical backdrops for photographs, something that most guests too commented about. I do hope that soon I will visit the place again and reminisce of the beautiful day.
